# Excel Reader File Path Variable

Hi all,

I am trying to feed a file path variable to the new Excel Reader node.

The ‘path’ input variable is greyed out and prevents me from selecting the location variable, which is generated by a Table Row To Variable Loop Start looping through file path strings.

Also when I select the ‘v’ icon it reads \< no matching vars \>.

I just want to check if I am missing something simple here to get this working? It worked in the deprecated version. ☹

Hi @sjmartin,

I guess you are actually having string variables and need to convert them to paths using the [String to Path (Variable)](https://kni.me/n/ZQhbBU6AJWXWZgxn) node.
