Grouping nodes without useing Metanodes or Components

Dear All,

Is there a way to groups nodes in a workflow without using components or metanodes ? I am new at Knime and these two processes are quite difficult to handle at this time.

I’d like to group a bunch of nodes and to move them inside the workflow. The equivalent in Alteryx is the Container.

Many thanks to you
Esmé

Hi @Esme Welcome to KNIME Forum.

I don’t know Alteryx. But maybe you are looking for what is called in KNIME “workflow invocation”? See this video https://youtu.be/ze_zgH3AWx4?si=CLfuI5K8iWoD75TC

I don’t think that is possible.

What you can do is use Workflow Annotations to draw “boxes” across certain nodes that you consider a “group”, however they won’t “stick” to that annotation so you still have to select manually all the nodes each time.

Meta Nodes and Components to the best of my knowledge are the only way to achieve what you are after…

Hi @Esme,

Since day one, I’ve absolutely fallen in love with components in KNIME
I believe that once you get used to them — especially how the input and output ports work — you’ll find them surprisingly easy and incredibly powerful.

Below, I’ve shared a short example video to show just how convenient they can be.
If you run into any issues or have questions while trying them out, please don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re happy to help!

P.S.: Are you the same Esme as @Esme61, whom I helped with a component-related problem before? If so — hi again!

Best regards,
Alpay

metanodes essentially are containers.

given your description, it sounds more like you want to group a set of nodes relative/absolute position to each other. Knime does not support that

hi HansS,

thank you for your input.
No I’m not thinking of Invocation. Just grouping a bunch of nodes together. It’s more a question of organising my flow. Thank you

Hi Fe,

Yes I would like to group nodes, just as you can group and ungroup items in many apps, a very helpful UX functionality, nothing else. A pity Knime does not.

Have a good day,
Esmé
