jtds SQL Server driver not showing up

I am running KNIME 2.8.2 on Mac OS X and have loaded the jtds-1.3.1.jar driver in the KNIME Preferences panel.  However, when I go to configure a Database Reader node, it does not show up in the Database Driver menu.  I have successfully used other drivers (MySQL and Filemaker to be specific) so it is not a general JDBC problem.  Any helpful ideas are very much appreciated!

This doesn't look like a trivial task, I did a bit of googling and found a whole collection of interesting links, most interesting is probably this one. Please let me know if you have any success?
