The KNIME team likes to point your attention to a KNIME 2.12 preview build. We are about to upgrade the underlying software components to Eclipse 4 and Java 8 and would appreciate feedback from our community. Dear KNIME

The problem with the XLS writer node (cannot write into a ShareRoom directory) is still present (This bug is also in the 2.11 release). i would have thought this would be solved in the 2.12 release.
The preferences file could not be imported.

Tried to move three workflows into a new sub folder. They still show up in the root level but can't be opened. Once KNIME has restarted they have become folders.

It was possible to delete the folders after the restart.

I haven't been able to get it to break again...

Hi there,

on the Mac (Yosemite, 10.10.3, all system updates installed), I cannot open drop down menus within node dialogs. I can click on the control, but the menu does not open. Screen grab attached.

The preview does not contain all bugfixes from 2.11 (yours should be fixed in 2.11.3).

I like the option to use themes (File/Preferences/General/Appearance/Theme), but it seems the Dark theme is not so well fit for KNIME (see attached image):

(hard to read text on workflow editor, icons having white background are not so nice, node description has white background) I would suggest using the theme's colors where possible, or remove the option to use themes. (Strongly prefer first opiton.)

I'll try further. The basics seems to work on Windows 7 64 bit. (And it would be very nice to use Java 8 for development. :)) I can reproduce again the problem of opening the welcome page in Internet Explorer, but as I remember we could not find the cause of it for the previous release either (I have the default use internal web browser checked in preferences.).

Thanks for the feedback so far. Let me try to summarize:

Macca; XLS fix: This has been fixed on a different code branch, which hasn't been merged yet
Macca; Preference import: I tried to reproduce but it's working for me. Can you be more specific?
swebb; installation of community extensions: This works once you point the pre-registered update site URL to "2.11". It defaults to 2.12 but that site is not online yet. I tried it and it works for me.
swebb; moving workflows into sub-folders: If it is a bug then I believe it's an old (and seldom) bug. I tried it and it works for me. Let us know once you are able to reproduce.
qqilihq; Mac & Dropdown: Thanks for catching this one! We are able to reproduce it but haven't gotten to the bottom of it. We'll need to look into it (and would welcome if some Mac geeks will suggest solutions!)
iiiaaa; XLSX report export: This is new but only because xlxs export is new. Unfortunately we are completely depending on Eclipse BIRT here and I see similar problems in a BIRT forum (copied what I believe are reasonable search terms from your stack trace). It also includes a workaround, which I haven't tested yet
Please note that I tried XLSX export on knime://EXAMPLES/050_Applications/050004_lastfm_Recommendations, which worked fine (including the images!). I had problems with XLS_SPUDSOFT so we may just want to disable that in the final release? Also nice: BIRT has a real PPT export again.

After installing a node that requires a restart, knime did not come back automatically.

That did use to work before if i am not mistaken. (on OSX Mavericks)

For the rest everything seems to work, even PaDEL and OPS, except for dropdowns as was mentioned allready.

#1 When I start KNIME 2.12, the "Workspace Launcher" window always goes behind the splash screen and this is inconvenient to pull it from there every time.
#2 The panel size is not being saved when I close. So whenever I open KNIME, it always opens occupying the full screen and I need to shrink it everytime. Previously, once I resize the window size, the next time I open KNIME, it opens with the size with which last time it was closed.

A configured Oracle JDBC driver tends to get unassociated (disappears) upon restart of KNIME. Causes Database Connections to complain and switch to other available driver.

Just a quick update on the problem regarding drop-downs in all dialogs on Mac (which so far is the only real blocker reported here): We believe we could isolate the problem and are working on a solution. It's something that got 'invented' in an update release ofJava 8. It used to work in Java 8_u5 and 8_u11 but then stopped working starting 8_u20.

We'll provide another preview shortly.

We put a new preview online. This build uses the newest java 8 version (so updates from the "old" preview won't work on Windows) and it fixes the Mac problem that "qqilihq" reported.

Some serious test runs specifically on Mac are very welcome!

Hi Bernd,

unfortunately, I cannot event start the KNIME Application from the SDK with the current version. I see the KNIME splash screen and there the app just seems to hang. I see the following log output:

WARN 	 pool-1-thread-1 KNIMEApplication$3	 Potential deadlock in SWT Display thread detected. Full thread dump will follow as debug ouput.

However, there is no more output.

Hi Philipp,

You can check the output in the logs. The file log (.metadata\knime\knime.log) is by default set to DEBUG level.

[edit] Apologies, I was looking in the wrong place. The file indeed contains a stacktrace, which I'm attaching.

[edit2] Tried the standalone KNIME distribution. This is working fine for me. I can also confirm the dropdown issue to be fied.
