KNIME 3.0 Early Access and MS Word

Hi!

I'm hearing from a couple of coworkers that their MS Word quit working after they installed KNIME 3.0 Early Access, with the failure message pointing to a corrupted dll. It used to be that KNIME didn't go outside of it's home directory during installation. Has this changed? Is it possible that KNIME is actually the problem? I couldn't reproduce their issue on my machine (Windows 7, MS Word 2010).

Joe

KNIME is not replacing any DLLs. It also doesn't install any files outside the installation directory. The only thing the installer does is change a registry key that make KNIME looks nice(r) on high DPI display, but this doesn't affect any other programs.

Could you point me to the registry key?

The installer sets HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\PreferExternalManifest to 1.

Vielen Dank, Thor!

In two machines that I installed KNIME 3.0 early access, MsWord 2010 stopped to work. The others applications of Microsoft Office 2010, like Excel or Outlook run without problems except Microsoft Word.

When I modified the registry key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\PreferExternalManifest

to 0, Microsoft Word works again.

I would like to mention that there will be no changes to the registry when using the ZIP archive. To be accurate: I don't even have the registry key mentioned above (Windows 7 Professional SP-1 64-Bit with Office 2010 SP-2 32-Bit).

Best,
Marc

 Hi,

i have the same problem with MS Word 2010, i can't use it, after i installed KNIME 3.0 for 32 bit.

I have Windows 7 Professional and i didn't find the registry key mentioned above (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\PreferExternalManifest).

How can i fix that?

Thank you.

Hi,

I had the same problem.

In order top fix it, I had to edit the registery key after having uninstalled Knime 3.0 as the uninstall procedure apparently does not take care of this.

/me happy to follow the forum so I remembered that the issue had been mentionned here.

Hi,

to fix the problem please follow this workaround: https://tech.knime.org/faq#q30

Please note that no one in our team is using M$ Word 2010 - so we could only verify that the registry is reverted to what it was before.  If someone could confirm the *.bat file (as per link) also fixes Word 2010 we'd be grateful.

Also our apologies to everyone whose Word installation we broke (and also a big thank you for trying out an 'early access' KNIME version.) We are working hard on delivering a bug fix release (3.0.1) this week!

All the best,

Oleg

Hi,

I am happy to say that with KNIME 3.0.1 has just been released this is not a problem anymore!

We are very grateful for your feedback which helped us to get rid of this nasty bug.

Should you still have the problem presented, please let us know!

Best,

Oleg
