Our company is currently evaluatining Knime and one of the key requirements is to ETL data from PIVOTAL HIVE and HAWQ. Could you let us know if the KNIME Big Data Extension works with Open Source KNIME Analytics Platform or we need a commercial version of the platform or/and a Knime server.

There is no commercial version of the KNIME Analytics Platform. You don't need a KNIME Server in order to use the Big Data Extension, the KNIME Analytics Platform is sufficient.
