Are there any discussions regarding the governance of KNIME source code being conducted by a community based entity?

Specifically, are there any efforts to form a non-profit (501(c)(3), gGmbH, etc.), community-based stewardship organization to help ensure the availability and growth of the KNIME codebase? 

Such an organization would provide transparency and help to deter (possible) commercially motivated strategies to prevent source code access or community participation in the development process, while increasing the vitality of the KNIME community and steering/funding developers.
