Hi, my workflow file is not working. the only thing I did was take an export to an external location and since then It won’t open. Even the export I took isn’t working. what can I do? The whole setup to our new erp is in it. HELP!
Hey there,
sorry to hear you have trouble.
Are you getting any errors that show up?
If you could share that’d be very helpful.
When you say you exported to external location:
Did you right-click your Workflow and then => Export?
If so: Can you try and re-import the .knwf or .knar file that should have been created when you exported?
import from backup gave the same error
Hmm.
Ok - you are in modern UI - can you open the log file:
Menu => Show KNIME log file…
open with any text editor. You should have date and timestamp on the very left of every row. Maybe copy any line with a timestamp since this happened and share it here (either copy into separate .txt file) or copy it into the post using preformatted text option:
knime log.txt (73.7 KB)
This is a piece of the knime.log it was too big to put it all in here. I hope this is what you need?
ok that did help a little at least to give you a pointer in a certain direction.
In your logs I frequently see this:
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException; lineNumber: 2; columnNumber: 1; Content is not allowed in prolog.
There has been a topic in the past where the result seems to have been that the workflow somehow got corrupted - can you try and follow through with what happened after this response from Scott? It sounds like you can open one of the .xml files to see if it got corrputed (if you see structured stuff … then you should be good - if you see random letters and numbers - sort of gibberish… then it might have gotten corrupted in which case I am not sure if it can be reversed…)
sorry this is an old file
Well… what do you mean with old file? So maybe an older version that may not have recent changes?
If that is the case this might be good in case the other one really is corrupt.

that is not good - I am not aware that this is recoverable…
how about that other version? Hope it is not too different from what seems was just lost…
it’s almost completely different this was the start of the project . Did this had anything todo with the export I took or was it just an unlucky coincidence?
my best guess is unlucky coincidence…
What I typically do is every now and then:
- save the workflow and close it
- right-click the workflow in the explorer tab and duplicate it:
- this creates sort of a backup…
especially when I am developing quite fast I do this every hour or so and then also before starting any major changes and updates.
For a more robust solution you could use KNIME Hub (either business or community on a team plan) and use the versioning feature.
Another way would be @mwiegand s solution to backup entire workspaces…

hi,
good tip. I wil use the duplicate button.
I have another error as I was just working on my new node
could this have anything todo with the windows updates from yesterday afternoon?
I’m afraid I wouldn’t know…
in general and just out of curiosity: Is your workspace located on a cloud drive - e.g. OneDrive / SharePoint folder / Google Drive?
I think in general this could be a potential source of error (or at least have a higher risk of corruptions occurring…)
no I work local, cloud didn’t work
