The instructions on KNIME Database Extension Guide are confuse, and the links open in the same window, turning the task to follow them harder.
Example: there is a link to a page on Oracle website, but it is for an older version (4.1 instead of 4.2) and I did locate what I need to do. Download the Java SE 7? But there is the Java SE 8.
I connected the Power BI Desktop to the same Bigquery with a couple of clicks, and even when I needed to connect to a MySQL database on AWS, that required a driver, the installation was pretty easy.
I didn’t figure out how to install and configure the JDBC after following the instructions on the page indicated.
I saw the part of documentation that you sent, but notice that in your segment documentation has a link to JDBC 4.2, but before this there is a link to JDBC 4.1. Worst: the first link points to Oracle, the other one to Google. What is correct?
What do I install?
My post is an alert to the complexity of process and documentation.
the link you are referring to is just a general information about minimum JDBC driver version required in order to be used inside KNIME and there you don’t need to download and install anything from it. It points to Oracle as Oracle acquired Java some time ago. I assume link is here for more technical information.
What you need to download and install is what is mentioned under steps in link I shared. I believe it can be confusing but once you install you first JDBC driver you’ll get it.
I know this doesn’t help you but but back in days when I was connecting to BigQuery there was no documentation
Guy, after all, I realized that it is simpler than it seems.
I didn’t need to fill in the URL (I was worried about that), and the JDBC installation is just a matter of unpacking the ZIP file somewhere that you can find later (in this case the KNIME folder).
I’m going to write an article about my journey. The KNIME documentation is complicated, and the JDBC installation documentation is a 58-page PDF!!!
We need to review this.
But the object DB Table Selector has a bug. The Google Bigquery project ID has “-” and the automatic selector change for “_”.
