Installation reqmts Mac 10.7.5 re: Java

I'm an R user considering trying KNIME for the first time. I'm using Mac OSX 10.7.5 (Lion) at the moment (with intent to update to Mavericks) and am reviewing the requirements and warnings regarding Java updates. At the moment I have neither a Java item in my System preferences "Control Panel" nor any Java-named application in the Applications/Utilities folder. I do have content in /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk as mentioned in the KNIME FAQ. Since I generally update my OS regularly from the Apple System Updates fairly "blindly", I really have no idea whether the update mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572 has been applied. What should I be looking for in the version.plist  in the Java directory to tell me if this folder's content has escaped being updated?

Welcome!

If you don't have the right version of Java installed, I believe you will be prompted at startup by KNIME.  For me I think it was just a click or two (or three) to get everything going.

Also, just a heads up, if you intend to use the new R (Interactive) integration from KNIME Labs alongside R 3.0, have a look at the reltaed FAQ entry below.  Be especially sure not to install the JRI bridge and widndows binaries, as this will cause problems.

If you run into any problems, let us know.
