Issue with report | Knime to PA | Minimum fee rate

Hello team,

I’m reaching out just to flag an issue we have encountered when working with the Knime app to create a repot for PA.

We have followed these steps in order to create reports on PA:

  1. Create a vendor price list
  2. Add the total of the rates at the very last column of the list, “Rate: Min”.
  3. Run the monthly PO app as per usual
  4. Upload the MonthlyPO_OutPut_forPA on Project A

Nevertheless, instead of getting the phase name and the service correct, the line on Project A was categorized as “Minimum - All Phases” and the service selected is “Editing and proofreading” by default, instead of the service that was specified on the vendor list sheet (Copy Adaptation, in this case)

Can you please let us know how we can avoid this?

Thanks!

Hey and welcome to the forum,

maybe you can add some more clarity around the problem you are encountering - e.g. an anonymised example of input and desired output vs. what you are currently experiencing.

Bear in mind that there is a very good chance none of the forum users to be familiar with your use case or workflow at all - so the more detail you can provide the more likely it is that someone can help you out.

By the way - what does the abbreviation PA mean?

Hey Martin,

Thank you for your reply!

PA means “Project A” - it’s the platform we use to invoice POs. We use the Monthly PO app for this

I cannot attach images, maybe we can connect via mail?

You can drag and drop images from your computer or if you take screenshots you can directly paste them as well.

As Martin said, people need a lot more context to effectively help out  Given the description, ““the line on Project A was…”” this sounds like a problem that is outside of KNIME to be honest. Wild guess that you are performing a POST request on a PA endpoint and the value which is in KNIME is displayed differently in PA?

Hi Arjen,

Sorry for the confusion here.
The KNIME instance we use is the following:
https://knime.transperfect.com/knime/webportal/space/

We use this tool to speed up the monthly billing process - either by paying our resources with a word rate, or for adding a flat rate with their total rate at the end of each month.

In order to do so, this is the process we follow:

  • Access the website above and open the folder “BI Apps”
  • Choose the option "App_MonthlyPO
  • Run the app
  • Upload the files as requested by the site:
    • The report requested on the 3rd column, “vendor price list” must contain all the rate information. We can either enter a word rate, or a total. In this case, we added a total in the last column of the .csv file provided by the app:
  • In order to generate a report that matches the info from our .csv files, we mark every applicable option below:
  • After so, the app generates a file that is sent to us via mail, following the data inserted in the second column, “Input Fields Template”
  • This file that has been mailed to us can be updated on our internal app, Project A, where we track all the information about budgets and projects.
  • When we upload the file, this creates the vendor’s profiles on the app to generate the POs.

Nevertheless, when we add a total rate in the very last column of the “vendor price list”, it is not registered correctly. This example should read “Copy Adaptation” as service, not “Editing and Proofreading”:

I hope that makes sense, I believe your assumption is right and the “bug” comes from our platform and not KNIME.

Hi Marina,

thanks for the additional details - I take that you are using the web app that has been provided to you correct? And therefore I assume you are not familiar with what is behind the “user-facing front-end” you are seeing in your screenshots correct?

If that is the case it will be really difficult if not impossible for anyone here to help you.

If I understand you correctly then the file that is generated by KNIME and is sent to you for upload into Project A is correct - do you agree?

If that is the case then I agree with @ArjenEX and your assessment that the error likely occurs on Project A and not KNIME - which means I’m afraid no one here will be able to help you with that.

If that is not the case then to help the workflows behind the UI you are seeing are required, but from what I see there is quite some level of sophistication behind the data app hosted on your KNIME Hub instance so my recommendation would be to find out who has created it to see if they can support in fixing any issues.

Hi Martin,

We have been checking internally and we do believe that the issue comes indeed from the KNIME app and has nothing to do with our internal instance Project A.

Following the process I already mentioned, when we get the file auto-generated by KNIME on our mail, the information in this file is already wrong:

  • As you can see in the image below, the KNIME generated report is the one changing the service to “Editing and proofreading” instead of the service provided (e.g., as in row 1).

  • Please note we have tried editing the “vendor price list” in several ways to avoid this, as already mentioned:

    1. By entering the whole rate to pay under “Rate: Min”. This is the scenario of the picture above.
    2. By entering the whole rate under “Rate: Total”. When doing this, the rate gets multiplied by the total wordcount, as if it was a word rate instead of a flat rate. Nevertheless, the service provided is correct:

    3. We have tried to edit these fields manually, but after editing the file we get an error and we cannot upload it on our Project A platform.

Could you please help us finding the person who created the tool?

Thank you

Hi Marina,

thanks a lot for the additional information.

I don’t think that the public KNIME Forum is the right place to find the person that created the KNIME workflow that causes this behavior.

As you may know, KNIME is an open source data science platform that is free to use in its Desktop version with paid cloud-based versions like the KNIME Business hub that your company seems to be using (judging by the link you have included in one of your earlier posts).

If the Workflow that is behind the app you are using can be provided, maybe someone here in the forum can assist in debugging, however I take that right now you probably don’t know how to get that and, moreover I assume that the initial creator may not be too happy with you making that public :-).

That said I think your best course of action is:

  • find out from your IT who is the tool owner for your KNIME business hub
  • When providing that person with the link to the app you use to process your data in KNIME, your tool owner should be able to pass that information to the KNIME Hub Admin and that person might be able to identify who has built that workflow. That might be someone internally in your IT or that might be a company that has built that workflow for you according to your requirements.

I think your best bet is to find the person in your company who created the workflow or to work out which company/consultant did that so that they can help and fix it up.
