KNIME - Display adjustment for 4K resolution screen

Dear KNIME Team,

I recently installed KNIME in my Dell XPS with 15.6" 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) resolution display. Screen is configured at 250% which is the recommended setting for text, apps and other items (Windows 10 Pro). And I found that KNIME text and nodes are not scaled up automatically. It would be much appreciated if someone could suggest me the optimal settings to fix this in KNIME.

Regards,

Vijay

Hi Vijay,

This is an issue with Eclipse, on which KNIME is built. At present, there is no true solution here. One thing you could try is to right-click your knime.exe, open Properties -> Compatibility, and enable "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". This should fix some of the scaling issues. However, the downside is that node icons will appear smaller after that, so this is not a perfect solution.

Cheers,

Roland

Any update on this one?   Thanks,

Using Ubuntu with high res screen and Knime does not look great.

Yeah this still seems to be an issue. Is it really eclipse? Since 4.7 it supposedly should work properly?

It was supposed to be fixed in 4.5 ( https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=421383 ) - can someone post a screenshot of what they’re seeing running 3.7.1, remarking on what they consider incorrect?

Just set any screen to anything else than 100% scaling. For example a 1080p screen to 125% scaling and the knime nodes and text get extremely blurry.

Ok, running a VM of Windows 10 and scaling to 200%, i see that KNIME is blurry in text - but to be fair, so is nearly everything in Eclipse 4.7.3a (actually attaching a screen shot), so i suppose that Eclipse 4.7 is not fixed.

As far as I read about eclipse they only really fixed their UI icons but I read nothing about text scaling so yeah probably still broken. Not really a wonder with eclipse but to be fair other apps also don’t get it right.

Trying with 2018-12 (4.10) it seems like they’ve got the text working fine - but there’s nothing currently on the roadmap as to when KNIME would move to 4.10

Actually… i retract my 4.7 Eclipse comments; if i tell Windows to “fix apps so they’re not blurry”, then Eclipse 4.7.3 looks great - but KNIME 3.7.0 still looks blurry. I’ll file a bug if one doesn’t already exist.

This still isn’t resolved in KNIME 4 it seems.

My setup:

  1. full hd laptop screen at 125% scaling (primary)
  2. full hd monitor on hdmi at 100% scaling

KNIME looks all blurry and terrible on 125% scaled laptop screen and complete normal if I drag the open window over to the other screen. Playing around with compatibility settings doesn’t help. Setting it to “scaled by application” makes the nodes small and the text huge and looks pretty bad on both displays, but it’s not blurry anymore.

Too big text over node when using application scaling:

Blurry images (it’s much more apparent when looking at the display, in fact the image looks a lot better):

the sdk I have installed (eclipse 4.10) looks fine. When running knime from sdk it looks like first screen shot with application scaling and too large text over nodes.

Yes, the issue filed in February is open still in JIRA (AP-11369 for internal reference.)

Hi all,

Do you know if this issue is still present in KNIME?

I have a high definition monitor using scaling and KNIME appears blurry.

The alternative I have is to return the scaling to 100%. This makes everything small and then the node icons pixelate when I zoom in, which isn’t great either.

Thanks!

Hello @sjmartin,

issue @quaeler was referring to is still open. Have given it +1 for you.
