KNIME zipped update sites - installing individual extensions

Dear KNIMErs,

I am currently facing an issue with reaching the official update sites (or at least a few of my colleagues face this issue and I am trying to help them):

For some strange reasons (thank you data protection dept! :face_with_raised_eyebrow: ) my colleagues can no longer reach the update sites via the standard way in KNIME

Install Extension > search extension > follow the installation process

So I thought this: I have heard of the updated site packages as zip files. So I downloaded the trusted community extensions one. But this comes at a size of 1.2 GB from which my colleague (at the moment) only requires one extension.

Is there a way that I directly can install an extension from the included jar files or is it always necessary to download the complete zip file and add it as an archive?

Because - of course  - my colleagues need more than one extension, which would result in a download of nearly 10GB for everyone following this route. I thought that maybe there is a way around that somehow …

Thank you in advance.

Hi @kowisoft,

This looks similar to what is discussed here: Offline installation of a subset of KNIME extensions.

I believe this isn’t possible without completely re-generating the update site.

Best,
Keerthan

Hi @k10shetty1,

I don’t know if you already saw this, or if it could be related to @kowisoft’s colleagues accessing the update sites, but there appears to be a problem with downloading the zip of the KNIME Community Extensions (Trusted) for 5.5

Attempting to download this link returns a page not found:

In the meantime, @kowisoft - you have my deepest sympathy.

The countless hours of my life I’ll never get back, sacrificed at the altar of the great corporate security overlords… something suddenly isn’t working and you cannot tell if it’s just misconfigured or maybe Dave from InfoSec is having a bad day and has decided to reroute all port 443 traffic through a toaster for inspection…

“Trust no one. Block everything. If it’s open-source, it must be evil. If it’s useful, double the firewall. Don’t allow automation. Ever!; it leads to viruses!”

This is soooo true. Sometimes it seems that these kind of departments forget who runs the company (and earns also their money) - it’s the business. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in for security and protection, BUT in a meaningful way.

At least in my case we could convince “Dave” to trust the KNIME update sites so this topic is solved.
