I prefer the modern UI, it feels quite snappy and the improved view and annotation possibilities are nice. I am missing a few features from the classic UI for which I already saw some feedback.
One of the minor things I miss is the memory status and option to quickly clean garbage. I’d love to have that as an option again, just to be able to monitor memory usage and confirm I do not need additional cleaners in the workflow.

I am glad to know that you are exploring the modern UI. To add memory status in KAP 5.2, you can see the option here Preferences > General > Show heap status

After discussing this with our developers, @schramm found out that the memory status bar disappears after the AP restarts, and there’s a workaround to get it back, which is to
disable → apply → enable → apply.
To conclude, getting the memory status bar in modern UI is a workaround but is not “really supported.”

Hi Sanket, I agree, it works, but only until the next restart. So it is not really a solution.
Is there an issue open for it to be fixed? I just had this problem with a customer of mine.

Yes you are right, this is only a temporary workaround. We have already a ticket for this NXT-2564 — but it is not yet scheduled in for development.
