I’m working with KNIME under Windows and several Linux since many years. Apx. since the last year I need to develop and run my KNIME-Workflows under Oracle-Linux 8.0 via RDP over SSH-Tunnel. The Linux-Server is a virtual Machine under VM-Ware (16 Cores, 128GB RAM). I notice very poor Performance under these circumstances. Inserting and moving Nodes in the Canvas is lagging, making Connections is lagging, resetting and starting one or more nodes is lagging. Has anyone had similar experiences and possibly found a solution for me?
@ingo_knime are other applications on this machine are also lagging? Is there a chance it might be the connection? Do older versions of KNIME show the same characteristic?
Hey Markus, no all other aplications are running very well. I do most things under Eclipse-IDE. It is an extra installation, without any connections to my KNIME installation. KNIME and Eclipse are using different JRE-Installations but same Version. KNIME is using the original shipped Environment. I mentioned this, because Eclipse-IDE and KNIME are based on the same Software-Architecture.
Other Software like QGIS, Firefox, LibreOffice for Example is running very well, too
Hi @ingo_knime ,
is this using the current UI or the classic (Eclipse PDE-based) UI? Are you seeing differences between the two?
You can switch like illustrated in the screenshot.
Best,
Ben
Hey Benjamin, I tested both Interface and for sure, I do prefer the classic-UI (Eclipse PDE-based). But it doesn’t matter in this context. The perfomance, using modern-UI is even poorer than using the classic-UI.
@ingo_knime okay, that’s good to know, thank you.
Besides the issue at hand, I would be interested in what value you are getting from the classic UI that you are not seeing in the “modern” UI.
Hey Benjamin, in this post Linux-Performance should be the topic. I wrote some points about my experiences with modern-UI here: I strongly dislike Modern Ui nodes in Classic Mode - #32 by HansDieter_Zuch.
