Support for geospatial raster images

Hi,

as mentioned here GIS - Opening a GEO Tif image file in KNIME - #5 by Leedsbash7 I’d also like to support the possibility to read geospatial raster images. That would help a lot for analysis in the GIS environment. Image support is already implemented, so adding the geospatial component would be a great asset to that.

What do you think, @tobias.koetter?

Thanks and cheers

Hi @Awiener ,

Totally agreed. That is why we work together with the experts from Harvard on an extension for KNIME that allows you to work with geospatial raster images using Google Earth Engine. Right now the extension only exists in Github but we will release a preview of the extension soon via the KNIME Community Hub update site. So stay tuned

Bye

I am a major user of the “Geospatial Analytics” extension of KNIME. I wish to support this request. The development of new nodes to read and transform georeferenced raster images would position KNIME as a true competitor to the proprietary software FME.

This project (apparently in progress) could perhaps rely on the open source projects Sedona (Apache 2.0) or GDAL (MIT)?

Hi @tobias.koetter

Sounds great. However I am not sure, where this extension would live.

What I’d find great, would be treating georeferenced images as another layer in the upcoming multi-layer Geospatial View node. So a Geo-tiff would be something like a basemap for the map, layers on top.

I guess this enhancement request would be much simpler than a professional imagery analysis platform, what I think the new extension is going to be.

Cheers
