the tableau writer node execution is slow, despite the row count being around 300K rows. I have not tried to write a million rows yet cause it might take a really long time compared to tableau prep.

Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. The following link, could prove useful (Optimizing KNIME workflows for performance | KNIME) particularly the knime.ini section as well as the discussion mentioning to try to make the data set as lean as possible and only include rows / columns that are absolutely necessary.
