I am assured by our IT service that this is not a firewall problem. I have tried several times yesterday and today. Is there a server problem, or what should I tell my IT service to try next.

It’s actually very likely that this is a firewall/proxy problem on your end. The update site is served by a CDN and hundreds of servers around the globe and we are not aware of any problems there. Please check whether you need to enter a proxy in the network configuration or if http requests are filtered for some reason. Try to change the URL to https, for example.

I tried changing the URL to https, but got a similar error:
An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
session context was:(profile=KNIMEProfile, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect, operand=, action=).

Then something is wrong on your network. It looks like a proxy of firewall is resetting the connection.
