Urgent: KNIME Analytics Platform users on Apple Silicon – delay macOS 14.4 update

Hello everyone,

Critical issue causing crashes in the latest macOS 14.4 release.

To all KNIME Analytics Platform users on macOS on Apple Silicon processors M1,M2, and M3:

We were informed about a problem introduced in the latest macOS 14.4 release that causes crashes in any Java based application, including KNIME Analytics Platform. The issue occurs sporadically and is not deterministic, more details are available from Oracle on their blog.

To ensure uninterrupted use of KNIME Analytics Platform, we recommend that users delay applying the update to macOS 14.4.

There is no known work around for the problem except for applying a full backup of the system. Oracle has notified Apple and their partners about the issue and we are following it closely. Updates will be posted in this thread.

The KNIME Team.

To all KNIME Analytics Platform users on macOS on Apple Silicon processors M1, M2, and M3.

Apple has just released macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 which includes a bug fix for ‘Apps that include Java may quit unexpectedly’.

Hi all,

did someone try this with 14.4.1? I tried with 14.4 and could reproduce the issue, but I have currently no access to 14.4.1 unfortunately.

One of our customers reported exactly these symptoms/problems, but running MacOS 14.4.1!

Best, Frank
