hi, i have been using knime from quite some time now, recently after updating the software to 5.4, i started getting this error user interface is not responding, and frequency is often
Hey there and welcome to the forum!
I’ve seen this a bit lately although I felt it was better in 5.4.1 vs 5.4!
I know the devs are working on further improving the modern UI in terms of performance.
That said, for now, in large workflow (and looks like you have a large one) I still switch to Classic UI, which does not seem to have the issue.
Maybe try that: Menu —> switch to classic
Yes i’ve been getting this since 5.4. Same workflow same number of rows give or take but now it freezes.
thanks for your prompt response, will check 5.4.1, hope it will get resolved, i normally dont prefer classic UI however if issue remains as is then i might have to switch, anyways thanks for help
I think it can be helpful to share more information so the devs have a bit more to work with:
- which OS are you on?
- Some specs of your computer e.g. how much RAM allocated to Knime…
- when are the issues happening? E.g. I have seen that primarily when navigating into larger meta nodes or components…
here are the details

Hey @amit4484_mit,
This message was introduced with 5.4.0 as we had some cases where users reported that the ui froze and they lost their unsaved changes. From a performance point of view this shouldn’t have changed anything but you now have the possibility to save your changes if the UI for whatever reason is unexpectedly frozen.
In 5.4.0 we already discovered a lot of cases where we show this message although everything works as expected (which is the case for you as well). We improved that a lot already in 5.4.1 and are still looking for further cases that we need to improve.
In general as @MartinDDDD mentioned already we are currently heavily looking into performance improvements for Modern UI especially for the case of large workflows. I am very confident that we can show some very nice improvements in the near future.
Greetings,
Daniel
