View report as doc or xls

Hi,
I try to view report as Word file or Excel file in Ubuntu with OpenOffice, but see only document structure, something like “<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <?mso-application progid="Word.Document"?>”
I try to save file and open it, but I see same structe. So, can I use this feature any way with OpenOffice?

There is forum post on birt-exchange. The default emitter in BIRT produces Excel 2003 XML (which also doesn’t support charts as far as I know). This format is apparently not understood by OpenOffice. I guess this is also true for the Word export.

You are help me again :). I simply rename “Word” file with .xml extension and OOo opens it fine. With charts.
