Excel Writer Node Bug

I am trying to use the Excel Writer node to replace a worksheet in an XLSM file with a new sheet. To be able to write to an XLSM file I have chosen the Append option under the File format & output location options. In the Sheets section I chose the Sheet Name I want to replace and use the Overwrite if sheet exists option.

This seems to work correctly in that the old worksheet with data is replaced with the new data but this process also creates a “ghost” object in the Excel file that isn’t visible and can’t be deleted. For each write I do with the Excel Writer node, a further “ghost” sheet is created.

From the sheet names (numbers) it looks like the ghost sheet is a remnant of the sheet that has been overwritten that isn’t completely removed.

Over time, many ghost sheets can build up and eventually Excel falls over.

Hello @dtackley,

and welcome to KNIME Community!

Seems that “newer” Excel Writer has issues with XLSM files:

Maybe suggested workaround helps.
