I have been using Save As on my local machine to create save points in a model I am building.
Normally I close the application and leave the model open but this time I did not and when I restarted it, it had reverted to a version from 9 days ago.
The files have more current dates and the SVG file reflects the most recent save point, but I cant seem to bring back the latest version. In fact, all of my save points reflect the 9-day-ago point.
I think that there was an update around that time which may or may not be related.
Yes I know I could use github or the server but… I should also be able to open a file that I just saved.
Any suggestions on how to recover or at least prevent in the future?
Sorry to hear this, but I just want to check a couple of things.
When you use Save As, are you using Modern UI or Classic UI? Presumably you are adding something like the date, or just a sequence number to the workflow name when you “save as”? So are you actually seeing that new workflow name, or are you just finding the original workflow but the new name is nowhere to be seen?
Reason for asking about Modern UI or Classic UI is that by default, in Classic UI, “save as” saves to the current workflow folder, whereas in Modern UI it saves to the root folder which I personally find very irritating and time-wasting, and can also lead to new workflows “apparently” (but not actually) disappearing.
I just want to check that your saves haven’t just gone to the wrong folder, which I’m hoping they have, as I’ve not experienced any actual “missing” saves.
I’m currently working on different versions due to client requirements.
What works for me in 5.25 / 5.33 (using modern UI) is:
saving the WF
Closing it
Navigating to where it is saved
Right click => duplicate
then re-name
But obviously this is something that needs a fix (unless you find that, as @takbb suggested, the WF was saved to root folder and it is happy days again
Thank you for the reply and the welcome to the forum!
I am using the Modern UI. You are correct that I save with a sequence number in the file name. When I use windows explorer and Knime file explorer, I can see all of my iterations. Probably the most frustrating piece is that the data seems to be in the file, it just isn’t being expressed.
I can see a lot of nodes and the SVG file reflects the most current save - almost teasing me.
Hi Martin,
Thanks for the suggestion and the empathy, sadly this didn’t work either.
I also tried to package it up and then import it back both on my current machine and another for good measure.
There definitely seems to be an issue around interoperability between application versions.
A request to the Knime Dev team:
if the issue that is causing the backward compatibility can’t be resolved directly, it would be great to have a tool to rebuild older files into new formats
