Across at least the last few versions of KNIME AP the Component Layout editor, there have been two bugs occurring. Both seem to be appear at the same time and are probably related.
If I create a brand new component, even with just one or two nodes in it, and open the Layout editor (whether inside the Component or outside)
(1) When I try to enter a value, the cursor flashes rapidly, and if I press a key on the keyboard, the entry is sometimes ignored and I have to press it a few times before it appears on screen.
(2) The ‘Finish’ button and the ‘Cancel’ button do not respond to mouse clicks, so the changes cannot be saved. The ‘X’ has to be used instead.
Obviously this means I can’t make changes to Components.
I attempted this in the Classic UI. The first time it was fine, but then it had the same behavior.
If needed I can provide a video demoing the issue.
Hi - following up to see if this can be looked into? It’s making it impossible to create DataApps as I can’t edit Widgets in Components.
Note: Moving into Feedback & Ideas section
I’m not sure I understand your problem. From your screenshot it looks like you’re trying to configure the size of a node display in a component. Try entering the dimension(s) and then click on the workspace and then click Finish.
Hi @ajackson,
I was able to reproduce this and have forwarded the issue to the development team.
As a workaround in the meantime:
When you open the layout editor and switch to the Advanced Composite View Layout tab, check if a blinking text cursor (|
) appears anywhere in the layout JSON (as shown in the screenshot). If it does, the Finish button should become clickable. If the cursor doesn’t appear, the button remains disabled.

Best,
Keerthan

I am trying to configure it, but the interface won’t let me, and I can’t click Finish - it doesn’t respond. It’s a roadblock for making changes. Fortunately it sounds like they were able to reproduce it.
I’m so relieved you were able to reproduce this ! Thank you so much for sending it on to them.
And that cursor trick is what I try before any edit. Sometimes I get lucky and I’m able to make edits.
Have a great weekend!
