This is to our users running KNIME Analytics Platform on Mac:
Apple’s latest MacOS version 11.0 “Big Sur” was released mid November and we see slow adoption both externally and internally. We noticed this release brings some changes that are incompatible with Eclipse – the framework that KNIME Analytics Platform is based on.
To our knowledge these problems are only visual artifacts in the KNIME UI such as distorted table views in the KNIME editor, for instance in the node repository or the node recommendation view. These UI glitches can easily be “fixed” by simply clicking into the tables so that the respective area is redrawn. The data processing itself is not affected.
At this point we are dependent on Apple and Eclipse to address these visual artifacts. Eclipse itself has a number of tickets open to address them. Many of them are scheduled for their upcoming 4.18 release (due mid December).
If you haven’t updated your Mac installation yet, you might want to wait a little longer for us to provide an update. We plan to look at evaluating and updating these dependencies as soon as they become available.
And as always, if you have any questions or observations, feel free to post them here.
Adding info that using latest KNIME version 4.4 on macOS Big Sur should give better user experience as new version is based on Eclipse 2021-03 (previously 2020-03) which means many issues are now addressed.
If using KNIME on macOS Big Sur and have any questions or observations, feel free to post them here.
