Restore Knime workflows

Continuing the discussion from Restore Knime Workflow:

Hi, I have a similar issue. But when I switch the workspace to the folder with the old workflows, they do not show up as proper workflows in Knime, but more like a tree of folders with subfolders for each node:

Any clues if & how this can be fixed? Thx/Evert

I can offer up these threads. Unfortunately if the workflows would not integrate themselves into KNIME like this you might have to revert to a backup.

Can you tell us more about your system and the circumstance where the data is being stored (is it some sort of cloud drive?).

First: you should always have an independent backup strategy including provisions for accidental deletion as well as version management and disaster recovery (in case the drive gets lost). Cannot open saved project from local computer

@farrarjonc1 thank you and hope your year is also going well. Two additional hints. Although unlikely in this case it is possible that you could have a problem with your hard drive or the handling of special characters. And lately I had the case where a workflow that was left open although previously saved disappeared. So backup and versioning is a thing. It was a windows server that would auto shut down the session and the left-open workflow did not survive. Additional hints can be found here…

Lost Workflow

Unfortunately there is not. The KNIME server does offer a trash can where you could restore workflows but the base version would just delete the workflow or even workflow group. I am not sure if you could configure a warning. Therefore you would have to rely on your own backup system or do an undelete (you might have to seek professional help). KNIME seems to be thinking about some sort of backup mechanism (AP-11335).

The data is stored on MicroSoft Onedrive. I take it this is part of the problem?

Hi @evert.homan_scilifelab.se , if you look into your MS Onedrive where your workflows are stored, do you see other files such as the .metadata file in there, or just the workflow folders?

There is a .metadata folder as well.

I fear this could be the case. I have seen several problems with KNIME workflows and OneDrive. For once there seem to be limitations on the characters that can be used in OneDrive depending on the admin settings and the version (academic. etc seems to have different default settings). The workflows might work first but would later be corrupted - this might especially be true if you try to transfer data KNIME workflows via OneDrive.

One (not good) option could be to try and reconstruct the original names of the files and folders - but it might be you will have to rely on a backup.

I have used DropBox with KNIME without issue.
